Bill King - Maine Artist

Bio

Bill was born in Providence R.I. and raised on a farm in Douglas, Massachusetts where he learned to appreciate nature and the outdoors. He discovered early that he had a talent and proclivity towards art and did a lot of drawing and painting as a child.

After four years in the Marine Corps and a tour of duty in Vietnam, Bill studied the Bible and art at Atlantic Union College in S. Lancaster, Massachusetts. During those years of study he made

frequent camping and exploring trips to Maine and Canada where he was struck by the beauty and diversity of the Maine wilderness, Baxter State Park, the coast and countryside as well.

After moving to Maine in 1980 Bill began painting seriously. He began painting wildlife in watercolor and doing art festivals and showing in galleries, part time at first, increasing the number of shows each year until going full time in 2000.

Bill now works in acrylics and watercolors and does about 25 to 30 art shows, mostly in Maine, and is currently showing at the galleries at the bottom of the page.

His style is realism focusing on dynamic lighting. Most of his paintings are of lakes, rivers, streams, harbors, and nauticals. He loves painting water in all of its variations, whether it be calm reflection , rapids or anything in between. He often hears comments about his paintings being serene, peaceful, calming and restful.

Bill’s work has won several first place awards and best of show last year in the State of Maine Sportsman show in Augusta, Maine. He was also the runner-up in the Maine duck stamp contest last year.

His work has been collected by many corporations such as Casco Bank, Morse Payson & Noyes Insurance, Jordan’s Meats, Logan’ Paints and Decorating, Ram Management Co. and MBNA America to mention a few.

It’s Bill’s desire that the serenity, peace and rest we so richly derive from nature will be brought back through his paintings to be experienced over and over again in our otherwise hectic lives.

Bill would also like to acknowledge that whatever talent he has comes from God, through his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as a gift and would like his work to reflect the grace that also imparts a lasting peace, rest and eternal life.

“All this is from God who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them….We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:18-21
